Pennyroyal Leaf

CAD $6.50

The name “Pennyroyal” was first used by Gaius Pliny Secundus, a Roman writer, admiral and naturalist. It derives from the Greek name “Μίνθη” (Pennyroyalhe or Myntha), and was named after an unfortunate river nymph who was loved by Hades the god of the Underworld. She was transformed into a plant by his wife Persephone. When Hades was unable to reverse the spell cast by Persephone, he made her smell sweet and fresh so that whenever a man stepped on her, the air was filled with her sweet aroma. As such, Pennyroyal is often used in love spells.

Strongly associated with the underworld, Hades, and Love, it was used in funerary rites to cover body odour and to connect with the Underworld.

Believed to possess protective properties and is used in rituals and charms to ward off negative energies.
