Nettle Leaf

CAD $7.50

Potent against evil magic in Slavic folk magic stinging nettle is known to “sting” evil spirits, remove curses (and even send them back to the curser) and be very protective. Wise folk added it to candles and incense to increase personal power. Stinging nettle (along with thistle, wormwood, and mugwort) can be used as a smoke or wash for banishing or driving out unwanted spirits or anything negative. Nettle stems used to be made into fibres and thread and clothes made from it were known to remove curses and jinxes and would also protect the wearer. Nettles “prefers those who are not afraid of being stung by it” and according to legend lightning will never strike where nettles are.

Used for centuries in Europe as food in early spring when other sources were scarce, it is nutritive and builds strength and milk production of pregnant and lactating women and livestock and is a medicine for various conditions. Hippocrates recorded 61 medicinal uses of the plant in the fourth and fifth centuries BCE. It was also mentioned in the Nine Herbs Charm recorded in a 10th century manuscript that was alleged to be an antidote to poisons and heal infections.

If you eat three meals containing nettles in May, it is said that you will not be sick for the rest of the year. It is known that Nettles are unfit to eat after the month of May due to the Devil using them to make a shirt (which is fortunate, because after the month of May they become too rough to eat anyway…)
