The serpent, or snake, is one of the oldest and most widespread mythological symbols. The word is derived from Latin serpens, a crawling animal or snake. Snakes have been associated with some of the oldest rituals known to humankind and represent dual expression of good and evil.
Serpents and snakes represent fertility and the creative life force. As Snake Skin is shed through sloughing, they are symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing. The ouroboros is a symbol of eternity and continual renewal of life and seen as an emblem of strength and bravery. Rattlesnakes are an important part of American indigenous mythology and were commonly used for healing. As the rattles were used to would facilitate childbirth, there was the common belief that rattles would pacify teething children. They were placed in a bag and hung around the neck, or worn as a necklace.
Rattlesnake Rattles are mostly carried as amulets by gamblers or those who enjoy gambling as it is believed to increase their luck.
