Poppy Seeds from The Witches Garden

In Ukrainian Folklore Poppy (Mak) is a flower of dreams, fertility, beauty and youth. It symbolizes infinity of the universe but at the same time it suggests sleep and the oblivion. Believed to be a good charm against witches, it’s alleged to be protective against the evil eye and possess a magic power to be helpful against all sorts of evil forces and evil influences.
Long associated with sleep and death, perhaps because the narcotic made from the opium poppy can easily bring about both. Ancient Greeks and Romans presented them as offerings to the dead. In the Victorian Language of Flowers, poppy symbolized eternal sleep, oblivion, & imagination. In Tuscany, witches apparently put Poppy Stem & Root (& leaf) onto hot coals and then read the size and shapes of the flames to get their answers. Other people burnt Poppy Seeds and divined their answers from the sounds they made as they burned
These poppy seeds are a Product of Canada and were grown and harvested in Alberta, Canada by The Witch from her garden. Since I am obsessed with all poppies they are a mix of all the varieties that I grow. If you are not into a plant hodge podge then this is not for you. They are contained in an antique 2 dram Californian Poppy perfume vial from 1908. Plant the seeds in front of your house to start your own poppy garden.
Californian Poppy was created by Atkinson and achieved astronomical worldwide sales. In the years leading up to WW2, no other perfume, not even Bourjois’ Soir de Paris (Evening in Paris), could match its success.
