These extra long ( A WHOLE 9 INCHES!) ritual matchsticks that have been infused with our signature Hallowtide Ritual Oil!
The Hallowtide season is observed all over the world and is a triduum of observances that include All Hallows’ Eve (Hallowe’en), All Saints’ Day (All Hallows’) and All Souls’ Day, which last from October 31 to November 2 annually. Hallowtide is a time to remember the dead, including ancestors, beloved dead, and familiar spirits.
In pre-christian Slavic lands, the dead were honoured during Dziady (Forefathers’ Eve) and were believed to return from the underworld towards the end of October. This celebration with the spirits of the afterlife took place in the home, and in graveyards where great fires were built to provide light for the deceased and for them to warm themselves. Offerings of fire, food, and drink were left for ancestors and dead souls to fortify them. Everyone would then go to the cemetery to clean the graves of their ancestors and leave offerings and light bonfires. Some of these fires however, were lit to keep certain spirits away, the malicious ones belonging to people who died an unclean death or wrongful death such as murder or suicide.
