The Black Madonna juxtaposes several ideals of womanhood: a powerful, heavenly queen, a suffering mother, a perfect nurturer…(the) scars a sign of suffering she shares with her worshippers. ~ Trochimczyk
Those that know me, know I love old religious iconography. I use saints & religious artefacts in my spell work, & have no issues or qualms doing so. Our Lady of Częstochowa will hear the calls of those with depression, one who is searching to fill the void, folks with fertility & menstruation issues, & those who need protection and guidance. She is a healer & the light at the end of a dark tunnel. Although she appears burned by the fire she is filled with answers.
The legend concerning the two scars on her right cheek is that in 1430, Hussites stormed the Pauline monastery. Plundering the sanctuary. Among the items stolen was the Black Madonna icon. After putting it in their wagon they tried to get away but their horses refused to move. They threw the portrait to the ground inflicted two deep strikes to the icon with their sword. When the robber tried to inflict a third strike, he fell to the ground and writhed in agony and died.
