Our Vintage Slavic Altar Bowl is a wonderful companion to our Baltic Amber Divination Dice. This magical little vessel is perfect to keep them safe and comes with a lid. It may also provide a place to shake and throw your dice out of if you so wish.
Used since before recorded history. It’s thought dice developed from the practice of fortune telling with the talus of hoofed animals known as knucklebones. The Egyptian game of senet played during 3000 BCE, used flat two-sided sticks. They indicated the number of squares one could move. Archaeologists excavated the oldest known dice in a backgammon-like game from 2500 BCE in south-eastern Iran. Bone dice from Scotland have been dated to 3100–2400 BCE. Excavations from graves at Mohenjo-daro in Indus Valley unearthed terracotta dice dating to 2500–1900 BCE. They included a die whose opposite sides all added up to 7 (Just like modern dice)
1, 2 or 3 Baltic Amber Divination Dice can be used together for fortune telling purposes. Draw a circle of roughly 20 cm (about 8 inches in diameter) and roll the dice. Some readers consider the reading null and void if any of the dice roll out of the circle. Others ascribe special meanings to the dice that fall outside the circle.
If you choose to count all the dice inside and outside of the circle:
- 1 falls outside the circle: Difficulties or an upset.
- 2 fall outside the circle: Arguments or disagreements.
- 3 fall outside the circle: Luck or a wish to come true.
- Any fall outside the circle: Argument to come.
- Any fall on the floor: Problems, worry, annoyance very soon.
- Any landing one on top of the other: You will soon receive a present of significance
