The evil eye is a curse or legend believed to be cast by a malevolent glare. It is usually given to a person when they are unaware. Many cultures believe that receiving it will cause misfortune or injury. Others believe it to be a kind of supernatural force that casts or reflects a malevolent gaze back-upon those who wish harm upon others (especially innocents). Talismans or amulets created to protect against the evil eye are also frequently called “evil eyes”.
Other popular amulets and talismans used to ward off the evil eye include the hamsa. While Italy employs a variety of other unique charms and gestures including the cornicello, the cimaruta, Mano Cornuta (sign of the horns).
The witch ball originated among cultures where harmful magic and those who practiced it were feared. One of many folk magic practices involving objects for protecting the household from evil spirits. Appearing in America in the 19th century. Larger more opaque variations are often found in gardens under the name gazing ball. Glass studios traditionally make a witch ball as the first object to be created in a new studio.

I received this as a birthday gift from my daughter with the guidance of this very thoughtful and incredibly caring store owner. They are both Kateys by the way…My Katey is named after me. Lolll…back to the product…this is an incredible piece. This Witch’s Ball is beautiful, magnificent and heavy and the way the light shines through her is magickal while she hangs in my Eastern windows of my home. As soon as I welcomed her in my home and hung her up this very nice peaceful sensation came over me. Thank you to the the two greatest Kateys in the universe for making my solar return so special ! I’ll never forget it.
