Hags were seen as a spirit or goddess in the form of a grotesque and hideous old woman. They often had power over the elements. Thus, hags gained fear and respect by the superstitious. Who would try to either appease the more benevolent of these spirits or ward off the more malicious.

Baltic Amber is believed to contain the very essence of life itself as it is warm to the touch and often contains insect fragments. As it once was a living substance it is related to spirit, and has associations with time, cycles & longevity.
