Candle Snuffer

Description

Keep your candles burning beautifully! Candle snuffers, candle extinguishers, or douters are instruments used to extinguish burning candles. They date from the 17-19th centuries and usually consist of a small cone at the end of a handle. The use of a snuffer helps to avoid problems associated with blowing hot wax. It avoids the smoke and odour of a smouldering wick which results from simply blowing a candle out. Extinguishers are still commonly used in homes and churches.

Many complex forms of snuffers evolved for the homes with many candles. Some candle snuffers had concentric trap-doors that would snap shut and isolate the sniff. Other’s would stow the snuff in a lower cavity in the scissors. Similar devices include the douter, and the extinguisher.

Proper candle care is the absolute key to having long full burns.
