Baltic Amber Jewellery is associated with time, cycles, and longevity. As it was once a living substance, it’s related to spirit. These Amulets were worn to avert misfortune, for protection, and to keep one safe from black magic. They cast out devils, guarded against evil eye, brought luck in love, and made the owner stronger and cleverer.
Warm to the touch and alleged to contain the very essence of life itself. People believed Baltic Amber “pulled out” diseases from the body and “attracted” good luck. Much in the same way it attracts small objects if you rub it. It has unique properties unlike any other amber in the world, as it contains Succinic Acid, a bio-stimulant and has been used for ages to promote healing.
As amber is often harvested from the sea it is also associated with fertility, life and catharsis. It is alleged to relieve depression, anxiety, and promotes joy. In Latvia, bands of amber rings were used in wedding ceremonies to ensure an eternal bond, and represented renewed fidelity in marriage.
One Lithuanian legend says that all the amber that is found in the Baltic sea was once part of the palace of the Queen of the Sea Juratė who fell in love with a fisherman. Perkūnas destroyed her amber palace to punish her for indiscretion and the bits of rubble wash up on the shore even today. In another version, Perkūnas killed her lover, Kastytis and she mourns him to this day, her teardrops are amber.
